A Loss That Could Be Averted
It was a bright sunny morning in the middle of January. Due to never-ending snow all season, my business was affected very badly. Since the previous three days, that snow had stopped and the sun was shining. A situation like this is a gift for transporters as they can put their truck back on the highways. Even the sun was shining on my face; I could feel the cold and the temperature was relatively low. I switched on the heating of my truck and started to drive to my nearby destination. I had taken a break from driving and was staying at a hotel from the past two nights, waiting for the snow to stop and roads to get clear.
After the snow stopped, I waited for the administration to clear all the highway so that I hit back the road. Finally after breakfast, I heard on the television that highway is all clear and without wasting a minute, I was back on the road. The overall journey went really good as sun kept shining and highway was pretty much clear apart from black ice that distracted me at few points but everything was under control.
I had already faced penalties on late delivery and staying at hotel for two nights also costed me incidental expenditures and I was not in a mood for any other extra charges. As soon as I arrived the unloading dock I took a sigh of relief, that finally I reached my destination without any more hassle and snow. After reaching the dock, I started to unload the goods with the help of unloading guys present on the dock.
While the guys were busy in unloading I got a call from my wife and I move a little away from the truck to talk to my wife in private. I was on call with her and discussing my son's school result that suddenly I heard some voices of the unloading guys. I quickly turned around and saw my truck moving backwards and goods were falling down from it. I ran and jumped into the truck and tried to stop, but it didn't stop immediately and more goods fell to the ground.
After I managed to stop it, I learned that a lot of damage had been done to the goods. I regretted this a lot that I had no truck restraint system in my truck; otherwise that loss could have been averted. That day was certainly not my day.
